Environmental monitoring for Data cente

Data center environmental monitoring is the process of monitoring environmental conditions like temperature, humidity, and water. It allows data center operators to become aware of any environment-related issues within the facility itself and take preventative measures to mitigate their impact.

Monitoring environmental conditions involves placing sensors throughout a facility and feeding that data into DCIM software (Data Center Infrastructure Management). Data center operators can receive alerts when a sensor detects that a threshold has been reached.

To keep your data centers running efficiently and prevent unexpected outages, it’s critical to monitor environmental factors like temperature and humidity. This will enable you to act quickly if something goes wrong and help customer to achieve a defined uptime for the data center.

Type of Sensor

Every data center should install environmental monitoring sensors to monitor and control different environmental parameters for data center. The customer should install some data center Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS).

There are multiple types of environmental sensors are available in to market:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Dew point
  • Room entry / motion sensor
  • Power on/off and amperage
  • Smoke/fire
  • Water and humidity
  • Air flow

The customer should select the sensor type and quantity as per the application and size of the data center.

Alert system

The data center are having an alert system which can have different method of generating an alert to user while a sensor detects that a threshold has been reached. A module of the environmental monitoring system, enables organizations and government entities to send notifications to individuals or groups, via Email, SMS, or call to keep them informed before, during, and after critical events.

The customer should provide the contact and email data of their IT and security team who are managing the data center to get the alert.
